The good news is Divorce has been in decline since the 1980s; the bad news, according to a new study by the Institute for American Values and the Nat’l Marriage Project at the University of Virginia, is that co-habitation has increased 14-fold since 1970.

Shacking up is becoming more widely accepted and its increase is even seen in the most recent Census statistics. 2-parent households w/ children continue to lose ground statistically.

40% of American children experience parents shacking up outside of marriage by age 12. W. Bradford Wilcox, one author of the report explains, “children in co-habitating relationships are more likely to do poorly in school, use drugs, have emotional problems, and be abused, compared with children in intact, married families.”

Marriage has become stronger as an Institution among college-educated upper-middle class folks as well as the wealthy. It is suffering among the working poor and lower-middle classes. People who work to own something and make future plans tend to have more patience in Marriage and staying together. While the declining influence of religion and the increasing influence of Gov’t social welfare programs seem to be eroding the foundation of marriage for those in lower social classes.

Its another terrible statistic that points to trouble for future generations of Americans. As America becomes Post-Christian, with it goes the work ethic, marriage commitment, and civic involvement.

The Huffington Post , on AOL, reported the results of a Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted last week. The majority of Republicans now think the war in Afghanistan was not worth fighting.

More Republicans and Republican-leaning independents are now thought to oppose the war than support it; 55 percent considered the costs of the war greater than its benefits. Sixty-six percent of all respondents said the war was not worth fighting.

The clear winner in these latest views is Republican presidential hopeful U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas). While Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney tripped over one another in worshiping at the Military Industrial Complex altar, Paul offered the libertarian point of view on Afghanistan, criticizing both his fellow Republican candidates and President Obama while unwavering in his belief in withdrawal:

“It was a waste, there’s not gonna be a happy ending, and I think the Republicans have dug a hole for themselves because they’re trying to out-militarize the president, say ‘we should do more.’ Yet 75 percent of the American people say ‘we’ve had enough.”

The war in Afghanistan was the “good war”; it was bin Laden who masterminded Sept. 11, and it was the Taliban who protected him in Afghanistan. It was right to topple the Taliban, eradicate al-Qaida and kill bin Laden and his minions. Its the nation-building that doomed the effort. Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, the British, and the Soviets couldnt overcome this primitive tribal country. Why was America so arrogant?? Declare victory and go home. Dont get involved in conflicts that are ill-defined and cant be won.

Well, I said I wouldnt , but I watched it. Game Change, the HBO quasi-docu-drama about Sen John McCain, the 2008 GOP nominee for president’s, choice of Gov Sarah Palin to be his running mate. I believe about 95% of it to be accurate. He probably does appreciate the excitement she brought to an otherwise lackluster campaign. She probably does appreciate McCain picking her and his veteran’s service to America. But, I jotted down down 4 Lessons I learned from watching the “inside” story:

1) Sen McCain has a dirty mouth.

Shouldnt be unusual really. He is a grizzled old Navy man; he is a war vet and former POW. Christ does affect our speech; though if one used to cuss, he may continue to do so occasionally. McCain professed to being a Baptist during the campaign, but he’s never wore any Faith on his sleeve.

2) Sen Obama’s Berlin Speech in the Summer of 2008

Why was he there? Who arranged for him to speak at the Brandenburg Gate w/ the Victory Column right there in the background? As a student of German Histoire, I find it offensive and demeaning that these German Volk were taken in by this charlatan in the 21st century.

Obama’s message was messianic; it was utopian; it was pathetic. He had no credentials whatsoever, and no achievements on his resume. Nothing but pure slimy charisma. Watching the crowd’s faces as he spoke made me nauseated.

3) Rev. Wright’s, the Militant Black Theology Church of Christ preacher, and domestic terrorist Bill Ayers’ ties should have buried Obama before he got out of the gate in primaries against Hillary. How did the Dems miss this? How could McCain fail to go for this jugular? How could American people have been so blind to this Chicago political hack’s shortcomings? This should have been an anvil Obama had to carry like an amulet necklace during the election.

4) McCain’s campaign tried to “vet” Sarah Palin in 5 days, and did a miserable job. The pregnant teenage daughter is understandable this day and time; Todd’s membrship in a Secessionist Alaska Party is ok; and fundamental Christian views are always going to make the Liberal Media howl. But this woman had NO foreign policy knowledge. She thought Russia could be seen from Alaska and that gave her forein policy experience. She did not know what the FED is!! Google Federal Reserve and fractional banking. Google CFR and Federal Reserve. She was not ready for Prime Time; she was not ready for the White House. I still admire her as a wife and mother. She is a dedicated Christian believer. She does have Conservative convictions. She did fire up the base for a loser nominee.

“Women and children can afford to be careless, men can’t” The God Father

Rush Limbaugh entered the fray over the religious conscience issue in insurance coverage to the chagrin of True Conservative Believers.

Rush really made a mess this time. It has cost him 9 sponsors and one station so far. Rush’s trouble was he took his eye off the ball.

The Fluke lady, a Georgetown Univ law student, is a trouble-making Liberal Activist. She will make a ton of $ when she graduates from Georgetown (making her part of the 1%). She seems not to have enough sense to know she could get contraception from a local Planned Parenthood, or a nearby public clinic. She said contraception covg would cost her $3000 a year.

Rush and the GOP talking heads lost this argument w/ American women and maybe the whole country. The issue was whether a Religious Organization should have to violate its conscience and provide contraception in its insurance covg for employees or in this case students. Though I am not a Catholic, I believe in the right of religious conscience; it is a tenet of the First Amendment. It is a God-given liberty no govt can take away. How can the Govt constitutionally force people to buy health insurance? How can it force a company or organization to supply it, or to supply a product that is anathema doctrinally to it??

As an Evangelical Christian, Baptist most of my life, and fundamentalist in views of the Bible, I believe in traditional marriage. I believe in Family Planning between married couples. I support birth control. It is nice to have it covered by Health insurance. I abhor abortion. Divorce and shacking up are destroying the moral fiber of this nation.

Rush is more entertainer than anything else; he is a product of Establishmt GOP upbringing. He may or may not believe in conservatism, but he has never expressed an understanding of Christian theology. And he has made a mess of this issue by slandering this Liberal Activist’s name. God help us to get it straightened out and regain focus by the summer.

For those who believe Jesus just showed up in History as a baby in Bethlehem, God’s Old Testament Law means little. But Christ Jesus is God’s Son and existed in eternity past with the Father. He shows up throughout the Old Testament; that is called a theophany. God’s Law and Christ’s teaching are compatible and consistent throughout the Book.

For those who teach Jesus allowed anything to go in relationships as long as love was involved with total disregard to Leviticus and Deuteronomy, study these words: But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause [marriage] shall a man leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife; and the two shall be one flesh: so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man tear apart.

Statistically, traditional couples can shack up as same-sex couples do, and that is wrong, but New Testament scripture does not leave space for same-sex marriages and those letters are in red.

The “war” President Obama has declared on religion is now in its 2nd week, although supposedly the administration has signaled a truce w/ the Roman Catholic Church. Let me declare here forthwith, I am a Born-again Believer; I am not a Catholic. I have been a Baptist and remain an adherent to the doctrines, although I have become non-denominational. That said, I offer a series of questions concerning this “war” on religion and the adjacent issues concerning it.

*At issue is not contraception per se, although that is where the Democrat party has took it, and particularly feminist women. Contraception seems common sensical to me particularly in the modern age (we are no longer an agrarian society). The use of condoms, the pill, and inter-uterine devices are designed to space children out in a family; control the size of a family; prevent unwanted pregnancy, and (w/ condoms) prevent venereal diseases. Several generations of people– atheists, humanists, Protestants, and yes, 80% of Catholic women it seems, have used these means of contraception for the states reasons– married and unmarried. I abhor abortion in all its forms and remain opposed to the so-called ‘morning after’ pill.

*The issue is spiritual: The Roman Catholic Faith teaches that artificial contraception is wrong and therefore should not be used among its flock. In our Constitutional Democratic Republic, even Catholics remain free to do as they choose according to their conscience. It appears they do. BUT, that does not mean the Government has the authority to force the Catholic Church to supply its employees w/ contraceptives through its health care coverage. It does not matter constitutionally what kind of entity it is , church, hospital, university, charity, if the Catholic church owns and operates it. It does not matter whether the employees are Catholics or non-Catholics. The Catholic Church has the right to deny services or products it deems as ’sinful’ to its employees according to the 1st amendment to the Constitution.

* If the Administration is allowed to force this action on the Catholic Faith, further issues will rain down on Protestant and Baptist denominations in time. It is the precedent that matters. Gov’t work incrementally to usurp authority and tyranny to creep in.

* The Obama adminstration’s compromise is to say the Church does not have to pay for the products in the insurance coverage, it will be provided by the insurance carrier FREE OF CHARGE. And just how is that to be carried out?? Will Liberals and Socialists never understand NOTHING IS FREE?!?! Nothing in life is free! Everything is paid for somehow and by somebody.

*Can insurance carriers be forced to provide Catholic employees with a product FREE OF CHARGE?? Will the Roman Church be forced to provide it in their coverage?

*Can Americans be forced to buy health insurance policies when their employers do not offer it? What if they cannot afford it? How do you force them to take it out? How do you force them to keep it in force? How do you force them to pay the premiums?

* Who is footing the bill for those who cannot afford the gov’t enforced policies?

These are questions brought about by Government bent on moving toward welfare state socialism. The GOP has made moves in that direction as well, maybe not as pronounced but blood is on their hands as well. These questions must be answered and soon or our Republic is done for as we’ve known it. Let your Congressman know how you feel…

Nations have cultures- social characteristics that shape its political and spiritual outlooks. Our American republic appears to be nearing the end of a Kulturkampf that began in the 1960s. Puritan Pilgrims at Plymouth; the Great Awakening; the Founding Fathers’ “certain inalienable rights” “endowed by our Creator” prove without question Christian influence at the dawn of our Republic. Even the Jefferson letter, with its “wall of separation” phrase, was a reassurance to Baptists that religious liberty would not be infringed on by government. The God of the Bible permeated every aspect of American culture through the First World War. Common Christian beliefs were promoted without regard to sect or denomination across racial and social stratum. Prescient political leaders denied any one denomination of Christianity to take official precedence. The American government paid due respect to foreign religions when necessary, for example American Indians and Barbary Coast “Mohommedans”. Modernism crept in during the Twenties, and gained energy during the Sixties. Lose the Kulturkampf”, forsake America’s Christian culture. Remove the Bible as a textbook and sanctioned prayer from the schools. Legalize abortion and subsidize it even. Ban prayer from government meetings and the Cross from monuments. Let homosexual groups recruit your kids. Middle class young people, white and black, are now defending sodomite marriage and adoption in greater numbers publicly. The institution of Marriage originated with God therefore Man has no right to alter the definition. Go ahead and sow in the wind, but understand you will reap the whirlwind.

In 1979, radical Muslim clerics led a revolution to overthrow the Shah of Iran. The American embassy was overrun and its staff were held hostage until President Reagan’s January, 1981 inauguration. Shiite Persian Iran became pro-West as British and American companies developed their oil industry. The Ayatollahs rejected Western modernism and capitalist economics. The new extremist theocracy once in control, sought to dominate the oil-rich Middle East. Although Sunnis, the Assad family-ruled Syria partnered with Iran. Iran fought a 10 year stalemate with US-backed Saddam Hussein’s Sunni Iraq. Syria invaded democratic Lebanon and supported Hezbollah’s terrorist attacks on Israel. They took advantage of the PLO’s inept leadership to fund Hamas terrorists to gain control of the Gaza area. They fund Muslim Brotherhood terrorists in North Africa. Iranian President Ahmadinejad professes to believe in a Shiite end-time prophetic Armageddon struggle necessary to usher in the messianic rule of the Mahdi. He denies the Nazi Holocaust and expresses a desire to drive the Jews into the Mediterranean Sea. The radical Taliban outlasted the Soviets; they will enter Kabul again, and threaten Pakistan as well. Ill-conceived, post-war Iraq has a Shiite-government that now threatens its Sunni minority. Radical Muslim influence permeates the Near East from Turkey across North Africa to the Arab states. Then there is the threat of Iran’s nuclear program. Does a country so rich in oil seek nuclear power as an energy source or to produce a weapon of mass destruction? Is Iran a threat to America? Israel and Arab Gulf states recognize the threat. Talk about strange bed fellows. Radical Islam would annihilate the state of Israel, but also sweep the Sunni monarchs and sheikhs away in a bloodbath as well. The Bush Administration started economic sanctions against Iran to force an end to its nuclear program. President Obama has continued and tightened those efforts. The EU is on board to bring down the theocratic regime. China, Japan, and South Korea are meeting with Gulf leaders to discuss “supply guarantees” if they join the US-led effort. If one questions the reality of the power of the CFR and the need for military industrial complex enemies, witness the unusual geo-political perfect storm this election year. Obama, Muslim fathers- influenced and dove-wing Dem, is preparing for war and with it guaranteed re-election; while the GOP candidates (minus the anti-Establishment Ron Paul) trip over each in their commitment to involve America in a third Middle East war. Iran may be a threat to civilization, but US involvement in regime change has a terrible track record.
